CRESTLINE—Four-year-old Kimber Green loves nature and being outdoors so it is no surprise that she wanted to enter a contest to become a Junior Ranger.

The daughter of Kody Green and Sabrina Forwith, Kimber entered the Jr. Ranger Competition and has made it to the top five.

“Her GiGi showed her the Ranger Rick ad for a Jr. Ranger and asked if she wanted to subscribe to his books and look at the competition information,” said Kimber’s dad, Kody Green. “Shewas immediately interested and after hearing the info about the competition, she wanted to be a Jr. Ranger.”

He said his daughter is a good fit for the competition becauseshe is kind, compassionate, loves all animals and is a natural leader.

“Kimber has what it takes to be a Jr. Ranger: a big personality and the love of nature and everything in it,” Kody said.

In addition to reading books and learning new things, Kimber said she loves learning about animals and their babies.

“I love camping and fishing and exploring nature,” said Kimber.

She is learning how to identify a variety of birds, fish, plants and flowers.

“I like to watch the rain and look for rainbows. I especially like lakes, ponds, and rivers,” said Kimber.

She said her favorite thing about nature is turtles.

“They look like baby dinosaurs. I like to watch the turtles sunbathe and swim,” said Kimber.

According to the website and Facebook Page for the contest, it is available for kids ages four to 12 across the country to enter. The winner will receive $20,000, appear in a Ranger Rick Jr. magazine, and get the opportunity to learn from wildlife expert Jeff Corwin, who is actually hosting the competition.

“Kimber made it to the top five but still has a couple rounds to go. Everyone can help her win this and represent Crestline,” said Kimber’s Gigi, Ronda Green Ellis. “Everyone can vote for free every day until the winner is announced.”

Kody said anyone can vote for Kimber to become the 2026 Jr. Ranger for free or can give a donation and have an even bigger impact since it will support the National Wildlife Federation in their mission to protect wildlife.

The competition is currently in the Quarterfinals round, which began May 11 and continues through May 21. Public voting will determine which contestants advance to the Semifinals, set for May 22-28, followed by the Finals from May 29 through June 4. Votes reset at the start of each round, and the winner of the 2026 Jr. Ranger Competition is expected to be announced by June 19.

Kimber’s mom said her daughter has learned so much already but is really excited for the opportunity to learn more through Jr.Ranger.

“Whether it’s feeding her ducks and turkeys or pointing out the different types of plants while on a walk, Kimber is very knowledgeable about all things nature. We are very thankful for the friends and family who have voted and continue to vote for our Kimber Jo,” said Forwith.
