If you’ve been out living your life instead of glued to ESPN, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered. From big-league headlines to college shakeups and stadium drama, here’s everything you need to know from the world of Ohio sports this past week.

Guardians Find Their Groove—Then Face Ohtani’s Wrath

The Cleveland Guardians broke a five-game skid with a 5–1 win over the Twins on May 21 and didn’t stop there. They swept the Tigers over the weekend, pulling off a gritty 7–5 extra-inning win on Saturday thanks to clutch hitting from Kyle Manzardo and Angel Martínez. José Ramírez, meanwhile, extended his hitting streak to 20 games, reminding everyone why he’s the heart of the team.

But just as Cleveland fans were starting to breathe easy, Shohei Ohtani came to town. The two-way superstar crushed his 20th home run of the season, and the Guardians fell 9–5 to the Dodgers on May 27. Still, with a 29–25 record, they’re holding their own in the AL Central—only six games back from the Tigers.

Cavs Face the Offseason With Big Questions

After a disappointing playoff exit, Cavs president Koby Altman says the team is staying the course with its current core. But that hasn’t stopped trade rumors from swirling. NBA insiders have floated potential shake-up targets—from Giannis (yes, really) to role players like Isaiah Stewart and Dorian Finney-Smith.

The big question: Can the Cavs truly contend by tweaking around the edges, or is a bigger splash coming?

Browns Want a Dome. And They Want It in Brook Park.

In one of the biggest sports stories in the state, Jimmy and Dee Haslam announced a plan to move the Browns out of downtown and into a $2.4 billion domed stadium in Brook Park. Half the money would come from private investment; the other half would require public funding. Critics are already raising eyebrows.

Meanwhile, on the field, OTAs are underway. First-round pick Mason Graham signed his rookie deal, and all eyes are on Shedeur Sanders, who’s turning heads early.

Bengals Staying Put—for Now

While the Browns plan a relocation, the Bengals are locking in. A new 10-year lease deal with Hamilton County is close, which would keep the team at Paycor Stadium through the mid-2030s. As part of the deal, the Bengals are kicking in $120 million toward an $830 million renovation plan. The stripes aren’t going anywhere.

Buckeyes Track Heads to NCAA Round 1

Ohio State is sending 23 athletes to the NCAA East First Round in Jacksonville this weekend. The roster includes 13 women and 10 men across multiple events.

In football news, a proposed move to shift the highly anticipated Week 1 clash against Texas to Sunday night was denied. Texas insisted on keeping the original Saturday noon kickoff, despite push from Ohio State and TV networks.

College Baseball Championships Hit Ohio Fields

Ohio hosted a trifecta of major conference championships this week:

  • MAC Tournament: Miami (OH) defeated Toledo 6–3 at Avon’s Crushers Stadium.
  • Horizon League: Wright State shut out Milwaukee 2–0 at their home field in Fairborn.
  • Big East: Creighton took the title at Prasco Park in Mason, OH.

While not every local team came out on top, the state was center stage for postseason play.

The Memorial Tournament Begins in Dublin

The PGA’s top players have arrived in Dublin, OH for the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village. Defending champ Scottie Scheffler headlines the field, with Shane Lowry and Patrick Cantlay also in the mix. Rory McIlroy is skipping this year’s tourney—but the competition is still stacked.
