Miranda Wise Becomes Fifth Clerk to Step Down Since 2021 — Officials React to Her Resignation

Miranda Wise, the Clerk of Bucyrus City Council, has submitted her resignation, effective July 25, 2025. Her formal letter of resignation was delivered Monday and expresses appreciation for her time in the role while committing to assist with a smooth transition.

“I want to express my gratitude for the opportunities for growth and development that I have had during my time with the City of Bucyrus,” she wrote. “I wish you, the Bucyrus City Council, and the City of Bucyrus continued success.”

Wise is now the fifth Council Clerk to resign since 2021. Her departure means the next hire will become the sixth person to hold the position in just 4 years—a striking turnover rate that reflects deeper instability within Bucyrus city government.

While Wise did not provide a reason for stepping down, multiple officials offered praise for her service—and frustration with the environment she’s leaving behind.

“She was a definite asset to the council and she will be missed,” said Councilman Kevin Myers. “I wish her nothing but the best.”

“I personally am sad that we have had yet another clerk resign,” said Councilwoman Aaron Sharrock. “Miranda has done an amazing job and will be greatly missed.”

Law Director Brandon Gobrecht was more pointed in his reaction, blaming internal dysfunction for driving Wise away:

“It is a damned shame that the coordinated attack on our city, which is orchestrated by our Council President and his band of rascals, has driven off not just another Council Clerk, but the best Council Clerk this city has seen in decades. It’s been such a pleasure working with her, and her work ethic will be missed.”

Wise began work as a council clerk in August of 2023 and quickly earned a reputation for professionalism and reliability in an often-contentious political environment. Her resignation continues a pattern of high turnover in a role that has become increasingly difficult to retain amid ongoing council tensions.

Council will be tasked with appointing her successor in the coming weeks. Wise will remain in office through July 25 to assist with the transition.

FreeWire has reached out to additional council members for comment and will update this story as responses come in.
