By Seren Valeheart |Freewire — Your News, Your Voice

The Crawford County Arts Center is ushering in February with a renewed focus on creativity, community, and personal refreshment. Under the theme “Fresh Sparks & Artful Hearts,” the center is offering an expanded lineup of free programs, hands-on workshops, and creative meetups for all ages and skill levels.

Gail Griffith shared the vision behind the initiative, noting that “community makers are the artists, crafters, creators, and curious learners who come together to explore new skills, share ideas, and build a vibrant creative community.”

Expanded Free Programming

Beginning this month, free programming and open hours have expanded to Wednesdays from 1–3 p.m., reflecting increased interest in drop-in creative opportunities.

Ongoing weekly and monthly offerings include:

  • Junk Journal Club (1st and 3rd Wednesdays, 1–3 p.m.)
  • Watercolor Wednesday (last Wednesday of the month, 1–3 p.m.)
  • Tai Chi: The Art of Self-Defense (Tuesdays, 6–8 p.m., except Feb. 11)
  • Stitch ’n’ Sip (Saturdays, 9 a.m.–noon; ages 12+, with coffee and tea provided)
  • Creation Station (Sundays, 2–6 p.m.), featuring rotating all-ages projects
  • Open Studio (Mondays, 6–9 p.m.), offering adult members access to tools, critiques, and Digital Classroom iPads

February Creative Highlights

Special events scheduled throughout February include:

  • Feb. 8: Creation Station – Pom Pom Hearts
  • Feb. 9: Ceramic Painting with Barb Swihart
  • Feb. 11: Pen Portraits
  • Feb. 13: Galentine’s Day Wooden Heart Wall Art
  • Feb. 14: Second Saturday – No Sew Heart Pillows
  • Feb. 20: Cardinal Paint & Sip
  • Feb. 25: Sound Bath Meditation

Organizers say the variety is intentional, offering everything from meditative experiences to hands-on craft sessions.

Call for Instructors

Community members interested in teaching are encouraged to submit class proposals for March by Monday, Feb. 2 at 9 p.m.

The Crawford County Arts Center is located at 117 N. Sandusky Ave. in Bucyrus. Event updates are posted on its Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/crawfordcountyartcenter

As a closing thought, I’m wishing everyone a month where creativity flutters in like a curious little muse and refuses to leave.
