BUCYRUS — A heavy week in the Crawford County Common Pleas Court saw a Galion woman arraigned on serious charges involving prostitution and narcotics, alongside a multi-year prison sentence and the resolution of a year-old theft indictment.

Kanniard Arraigned on Prostitution and Felony Drug Charges Samantha Kanniard, 40, of Galion, was arraigned on February 12 following a grand jury indictment from the January 2026 term. Kanniard faces a first-degree misdemeanor charge of Engaging in Prostitution, alleging she recklessly induced, enticed, or procured another to engage in sexual activity for hire.

In addition to the prostitution charge, Kanniard faces a high-tier felony for narcotics. She was charged with Aggravated Possession of Drugs, a second-degree felony, involving Amphetamines. The indictment states that on January 16, Kanniard was in possession of the Schedule II drug in an amount exceeding five times the bulk amount. She also faces one count of Illegal Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and one count of Endangering Children, a first-degree misdemeanor.

Judge Sean E. Leuthold appointed attorney Jennifer Harmon to represent Kanniard and set bond at $175,000 cash or surety. Kanniard remains in custody at the Crawford County Justice Center.

Jamie Heater Sentenced to 54 Months On February 9, Jamie Heater, 41, of Crestline, was sentenced to prison following a change of plea. Heater pleaded guilty to one count of Endangering Children and one count of Tampering with Evidence, both felonies of the third degree.

Judge Leuthold ordered Heater to serve 30 months for child endangering and 24 months for tampering, with the terms to be served consecutively for a total of 54 months at the Ohio Reformatory for Women. Heater was credited with 174 days already served.

2025 Theft Indictment Arraignment Kara A. Horning, 34, of Galion, was arraigned on February 11 for a Fifth Degree Felony charge of Theft. The case stems from an indictment originally handed down in March 2025. Judge Leuthold appointed Madison Garverick as defense counsel and set Horning’s bond at $5,000 cash or surety.

Update on Shireman Case A sentencing date has been set for Carolyn Shireman following her recent plea of no contest to two felony charges. While Shireman did not admit guilt through the no-contest plea, the court accepted the plea and entered a finding of guilty on both counts. A pre-sentence investigation is underway, and sentencing is scheduled for April 9 at 1:30 P.M. before Visiting Judge Howard Hall.
