The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 181 held its annual Make & Bake Auction on Saturday Jan. 24, raising funds for the Bucyrus Police Department K-9 Unit during a packed evening that drew standing room only crowds.

The stars of the night were K-9 Capone, K-9 Vader, and K-9 Ellie, who were on hand to greet supporters. Community leaders and city officials, including Service Safety Director Tommy Starner, City Auditor Kali Lewis, and Bucyrus Police Chief Dorsey, attended in support of the K-9 unit. Retired police chiefs and officers were also seen among the crowd.

The auction featured a wide variety of donated items, ranging from homemade cookies to handcrafted goods. Several items sparked competitive bidding, including a Copper Poppy donated by Bucyrus Kettle Works that sold for $200, cookies from Katering Kountry Style that also brought in $200, one of Brandy Robertson’s pies that sold for $200, and a coat rack donated by John Ziegler that received the highest bid of the evening at $250.

Auxiliary members expressed appreciation for the community’s strong turnout and generosity.

“It was a huge success,” said Connor Teters. “We were overwhelmed with all the wonderful donations and all the people who attended,” added Beth Bloomfield.

After the final count of auction proceeds and donations on Monday, Feb. 2, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 181 presented a $17,000 check to the Bucyrus Police Department K-9 Unit.
