Tracy Byrd Brings Big-City Country to Small-Town Bucyrus

The smell of bratwurst filled the air, the streets were lined with lawn chairs, and the Farmers Citizens Bank stage stood ready for a night Bucyrus had been buzzing about all summer. On Friday night, Nashville country music star Tracy Byrd stepped into town and, for an hour and a half, turned the Bratwurst Festival into something bigger than just a hometown tradition—it became a celebration of music, community, and memories in the making.

For one Bucyrus fan, the excitement started long before the first guitar strum. Stephanee Borer had won the chance to meet Byrd before the show—and she invited me along. On our way in, her face lit up as she confessed, “I like truly love Keeper of The Stars. It’s like one of my favorites besides The Watermelon Crawl. I love that one too.”

The meet-and-greet was brief but unforgettable. Inside Farmers Citizens Bank, he put his arms around us, we chatted for a moment, and snapped a quick photo. As we walked out, I asked Stephanee what she thought. She laughed and said, “He’s better looking in person! Videos don’t do him justice!”

By the time the sun dipped low and the music kicked off, the festival was overflowing with energy. Families, longtime fans, and newcomers alike crowded shoulder to shoulder in the Bratwurst Festival Beer Garden as well as the stage viewing area in the bank parking lot. Those with chairs found themselves in the back, while the rest of us leaned in close, singing and swaying with strangers who somehow felt like friends. One concertgoer summed it up best: “Bucyrus really needed something like Tracy Byrd to bring everyone together as a community.”

And bring people together he did. When Byrd launched into “My Kind of Country (And I Like It That Way),” the crowd’s response was electric. Voices carried down Mary Street, the lyrics echoing through downtown as if Bucyrus itself was singing back to him.

The setlist was a mix of old favorites and heartfelt ballads, and the audience hung on every note. For Stephanee, her love for Keeper of the Stars only deepened, but another song surprised her. “I really enjoyed Tracy singing Lord Help Me Jesus,” she told me the next morning.

When I asked her to sum up the night in just a few words, she didn’t hesitate: “Unforgettable and amazing.”

About that massive crowd, one that rivaled what you’d expect in a much bigger city? She wasn’t shocked. “Not surprised at all. A once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

As the final song wrapped and people began drifting toward home, the feeling was the same across the festival grounds: Bucyrus had just shared something special. Bratwurst, beer, and a country legend under the summer sky—what more could you ask for?
