Residents of Bucyrus are coming together to revitalize the Bucyrus Neighborhood Watch Program, strengthening community connections and promoting a safer city for all.

As part of this renewed effort, a city-wide Neighborhood Watch meeting has been scheduled for January 21, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Little Theater at Bucyrus High School, located at 900 West Perry Street, Bucyrus, Ohio. Representatives from the

Bucyrus Police Department and Bucyrus Fire Department will be in attendance to address concerns and answer questions regarding the Neighborhood Watch Program.

This meeting provides residents with an opportunity to be informed, share their concerns, and play an active role in strengthening neighborhood safety. All community members are encouraged to attend, participate, and help build a stronger, more connected Bucyrus, because a safer community starts with neighbors looking out for one another.

Community Partnership in Action

The Bucyrus Neighborhood Watch Program serves as a vital community law enforcement partnership designed to restore the neighborly connections that modern, busy lifestyles have often diminished. Far from being a vigilante or armed patrol, the program focuses on “eyes and ears” observation, training residents to recognize and report suspicious activity without personal intervention. By working together to address local concerns, from improving home security through environmental design to fostering trust among those living on the same street, members help eliminate the opportunities for crime that arise when homes are left unattended. Ultimately, the program is a volunteer driven network of residents aged 18 and older who are committed to creating a secure, informed, and empowered environment where neighbors look out for one another to support local law enforcement.

What the Program Is (and Is Not)

To ensure the safety and effectiveness of the program, it is important for residents to understand the boundaries of the Watch.

The Bucyrus Neighborhood Watch is:

• Neighbors helping neighbors avoid becoming crime victims.

• Extra eyes and ears to support law enforcement.

• A network of residents who live on the same street or within line of sight (typically 5 to 25 homes).

• A platform for learning crime prevention, such as improving home lighting and security.

The Bucyrus Neighborhood Watch is NOT:

  •  A citizens’ armed patrol or vigilante group.
  • A surveillance or “stakeout” team.
  • A group for mediating civil disputes or a political advocacy organization.
  • A law enforcement entity or a guarantee that crime will never occur.

How to Become a Member

To volunteer with the Bucyrus Neighborhood Watch Program, you must be a Bucyrus resident or community member, must be 18 or older with no significant local incidents on file. Volunteers must be willing to serve without monetary compensation.

Get Involved

Attending the city-wide meeting on January 21st is the first step toward becoming an active member.
