Coach Butchko Comes Full Circle with Redmen’s Hall of Fame Honor

The Bucyrus Redmen were extended a prestigious invitation this season: they’ve been invited to attend the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony in Canton, Ohio. For Head Coach Jon Butchko, who grew up just blocks from the Hall, the moment is personal.

He remembers sneaking into the facility as a kid, hiding out just to catch a glimpse of football legends. One year, he met his idol, Marshall Faulk, and when Faulk told him he didn’t sign cards, Butchko ran and found a football—he wasn’t leaving without that autograph.

As a teenager, he picked up summer jobs with local businesses that relied on the annual Hall of Fame Festival—everything from setting up chairs to cleaning up after parades. He still remembers working long hours the year of Jim Kelly’s emotional speech, where the Bills quarterback famously honored his young son Hunter and spoke about real toughness, family, and faith. The crowd was moved to tears, and the moment stuck with Butchko ever since.

Now, decades later, Butchko is bringing his own team to share in that experience—this time as honored guests. The 2025 class includes legends like Antonio Gates, Jared Allen, Eric Allen, and Sterling Sharpe, who will join his brother Shannon in the Hall.

More than anything, Butchko says he’s excited for his players to make memories that will stick with them for life. “This is about making memories,” he said. “I know what it meant to me as a kid. I want them to feel that.”

While Butchko didn’t want to name names or make predictions this early in the season, he said his focus is on steady improvement. “I think we can just be optimistic we’ll improve daily,” he said, adding that the team is working hard and staying focused on the first game of the year.

For Butchko, it all comes full circle—what started with sneaking into the Hall has become a chance to bring his team in through the front door.
