Crawford County authorities have confirmed that Maxwell Anatra, the 24-year-old charged in the double homicide of his parents in Crestline, has waived extradition from Michigan and is being transported back to Ohio to face charges.
Prosecutor Matt Crall confirmed to media outlets Wednesday that Anatra is no longer fighting extradition and is expected to return to Crawford County custody within the coming days. Anatra was arrested in St. Clair County, Michigan, on Nov. 20 after allegedly attempting to cross into Canada just hours after his parents, Lisa and Matthew Anatra, were found dead in their Crestline home.
He faces two counts of aggravated murder and is expected to be arraigned shortly upon arrival.
Crestline police and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the case, while authorities have not yet released a motive. The shocking nature of the crime — a son accused of murdering his own parents — has left the tight-knit village of Crestline in mourning.
More updates are expected as Anatra is formally booked and proceedings begin in county court.
