Bucyrus is about to get a taste of football history — and a pretty great bratwurst.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame has chosen LeRoy Butler, the Green Bay Packers legend who invented the iconic Lambeau Leap, as Bucyrus’ Hall of Famer Visitor for 2025. The celebration will take place Friday during the Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival, and Butler will speak to Bucyrus student-athletes at 3 p.m. at Bucyrus High School.
Butler isn’t just known for making plays on the field. He’s also the man behind GameDay Brats, a line of hand-crafted sausages made with Vinny’s Sausage Co. Fans can try them in three flavors — Classic Bavarian, Cheddar & Green Pepper (Mild), and Cheddar & Jalapeño (Spicy) — the perfect bite while celebrating a Hall of Fame career.
Coach Jon Butchko called the opportunity a once-in-a-lifetime experience:
“This is a pretty cool thing that our student-athletes get to do. It’s not everyday that some of the best to ever play a sport or do anything else at a level where only 300 or so people have ever done it gets to come and talk to you. We are extremely proud of and fortunate to have the relationship that we are developing with the Pro Football Hall of Fame!
This is special for our athletes, our school, for the Bratwurst Festival, Bucyrus, and Crawford County.”
Adding to the excitement, every Bucyrus Redmen football player will get free tickets to the Hall of Fame in Canton, OH — a chance to see the game’s all-time greats.
Football and Bratwurst in Bucyrus. It doesn’t get much better than that.
