Bucyrus & Crawford County Voter Guide: May 6, 2025 Primary/Special Election

The May 6, 2025, Primary/Special Election is approaching, and voters in Bucyrus and Crawford County will decide on key local offices and ballot issues. Here’s what you need to know:​

🏛️ Bucyrus Republican Primary

Republican voters in Bucyrus will select nominees for several city offices:​

  • President of Council: Kevin S. Myers
  • City Treasurer: Adrienne Kemery
  • Law Director: Brandon Micheal Gobrecht
  • Council At-Large (vote for up to 3): James D. Mee, Clarissa Slater, Robert E. Taylor, Ray A. Thitoff
  • Ward Council Seats:
    • 1st Ward: Christopher A. Mauritz
    • 2nd Ward: Allison LeClair (R) vs. C. Aaron Sharrock (D)
    • 3rd Ward: Zyan Morrison Hickman
    • 4th Ward: Cody Thomas Scott​

These candidates are running in the Republican primary; the 2nd Ward also includes a Democratic candidate, leading to a contested race in the general election.


🗳️ Statewide Ballot Issue

  • Issue 2: A proposed constitutional amendment authorizing the state to issue up to $2.5 billion in general obligation bonds over 10 years for public infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, water systems, and wastewater facilities. This measure aims to continue the State Capital Improvement Program and the Local Transportation Improvement Program, which have supported nearly 4,500 projects across all 88 counties in Ohio over the past decade.

📜 Local Ballot Measures

Bucyrus

  • Issue 3: Renewal of a 0.5% income tax levy for six years to fund street and infrastructure improvements, including maintenance of roads, curbs, gutters, and related equipment. ​

Crestline

  • Issue 4: A new 4.5-mill property tax levy to generate approximately $340,000 annually for fire and ambulance services. This equates to about $158 per $100,000 of assessed property value.
  • Advisory Question: Should the Village of Crestline permit the establishment and operation of an adult-use cannabis dispensary? ​

Galion City School District

  • Issue 5: A proposed 3.5-mill property tax levy to raise approximately $998,000 annually for permanent improvements, such as facility upgrades and equipment. This would cost property owners about $123 per $100,000 of assessed value. ​

Life First Joint Ambulance District

  • Issue 6: A bond issue of $1.4 million to fund the construction and equipping of a new ambulance facility. The associated 0.2-mill property tax would cost about $6 per $100,000 of assessed value and be repaid over 29 years. ​

🗓️ Key Voting Information

  • Election Day: Tuesday, May 6, 2025
  • Poll Hours: 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
  • Early In-Person Voting: Available through Sunday, May 4
  • Absentee Ballot Deadlines:
    • Request by mail: April 29, 8:30 p.m.
    • Postmark by: May 5
    • Return in person: By 7:30 p.m. on May 6​
