Trailer Thief on the Loose? Two Families in Bucyrus Hit by Back-to-Back Thefts

Logan Andrew Published: March 22, 2025 | Updated: March 30, 2025 3 minutes read

Bucyrus residents are being urged to lock up, stay alert, and check their security cameras as two trailer thefts have rocked the community in just the past few days — leaving two local families reeling.

First Theft: Business Plans Derailed

Rachel Myers shared that she recently acquired a silver Stealth cargo trailer, branded with the Castle Auction & Appraisal logo. The trailer was parked in the alley near the 300 block of South East Street, at her mother’s home. Inside was everything she needed to take over a local putt-putt business.

“It’s been stolen. I’m so devastated,” Rachel wrote in her post. “We were taking over the Putt Putt business which was stored inside the trailer.”

She suspects the thieves may have already stripped off the vinyl signage. Rachel is asking the community to keep an eye out for anyone operating or selling a portable putt-putt setup or a similar trailer with a new paint job or no markings.

Second Theft: Another Family Hit

Just hours later, Kimberly Gasuras reported that her daughter’s utility trailer was stolen from behind her house in the 800 block of Roger Street. The black metal trailer, with a wooden bed and mesh ramp gate, was left propped on cinder blocks where it once stood.

Kimberly urged anyone living near South Walnut Street, East Oakwood Avenue, Rogers Street, or Short Street to check their security footage. “If anyone has any information about the trailer, please let me or my daughter know right away,” she said.

Crime Trend or Coincidence?

Two trailer thefts in such a short time span have raised concerns about a possible pattern. Trailers are prime targets for thieves — easy to hitch up and drive off with, often resold quickly or stripped of identifiers.

We’ve reached out to the Bucyrus Police Department with questions about whether these incidents are connected, if there are any leads, and what residents can do to protect themselves and their property. As soon as we receive a response, we will update this story.

What You Can Do:

  • Double-check all trailer locks and consider wheel locks or hitch locks.
  • Park trailers in well-lit areas or locked garages whenever possible.
  • Install GPS tracking devices for high-value equipment.
  • Review your home security footage from recent nights if you live near either of the theft locations.
  • Report any suspicious activity, attempted sales, or unusual behavior to the Bucyrus Police Department.

If you have information that could help, please contact Bucyrus Police or reach out to FreeWire at freewiremag@gmail.com.

These thefts aren’t just property crimes — they’ve set back small business dreams and family livelihoods. We’ll keep following this story and updating readers as more information becomes available.
