A Bucyrus resident was transported to Avita Hospital Bucyrus with life-threatening injuries following a house fire Thursday morning at 610 W. Mansfield Street.
The fire was reported by neighbors. Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene, where one individual was found inside the residence. That person was transported to Avita Bucyrus. Their identity has not been released.
Bucyrus Patrolman Galitza was among the first to arrive on scene and described the intensity of the fire. “The fire was as high as the smoke is now,” he said. “They [the responding fire departments] did a great job.”
In addition to Bucyrus Fire Department, mutual aid was provided by Galion City Fire Department, Lykens, Holmes and Liberty Township Fire Departments, assisted in containing the blaze and securing the area.
A dog found at the scene was safely rescued from the home. Patrolman Galitza personally transported the dog to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County, where it is now safe and being cared for, no word yet on the second dog that was believed to be in the home at the time.
The fire departments are still on the scene as small fires continue to pop up within the structure.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. No further details have been released at this time.
