A Bucyrus man has died following a house fire Thursday morning at 610 W. Mansfield Street. The name is not being released at this time pending family notification.
Neighbors called the fire in just after 9am. Emergency crews arrived on scene and located one person inside the home. He was transported by ambulance to Avita Bucyrus Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Multiple fire departments responded to the scene, including Bucyrus, Galion City, Holmes Township, Liberty Township, and Lykens Township. “I want to thank the surrounding townships—Holmes, Liberty, Lykens, and Galion—for helping us out,” said Bucyrus Fire Chief Chad Schwemley.
One dog was rescued from the home and transported to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County by Patrolman Galitza. A second dog remains unaccounted for.
The Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently at the scene investigating the cause of the fire. Fire crews remained on site into the afternoon as small flare-ups continued within the structure and the clean up process begins.
