High-school football is entering the stretch run, and Week 7 offers important matchups for Bucyrus-area teams. Here’s a look at what’s on tap tonight and tomorrow for Bucyrus, Wynford, Colonel Crawford, Buckeye Central, Crestline and Galion.
Bucyrus vs. Upper Sandusky (Home – Friday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 PM)
Bucyrus (1–5, 0–3 Northern 10) is still searching for its first conference win of the year. The Redmen’s lone victory came early against Triad, but injuries — including the loss of RB Demaris Munn-Page — have put more pressure on freshman quarterback Isaac Makeever and sophomore running back Wyatt Makeever. Upper Sandusky (2–4, 1–2) is also trying to right the ship after a 35–14 loss to Seneca East. Both programs see this as a winnable matchup to change their momentum.
Wynford at Mohawk (Away – Friday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 PM)
Wynford (1–5, 0–3 N10) travels to high-powered Mohawk (5–1, 2–1). Royals senior QB Brayden Campbell and senior RB Bryce Locker remain the heart of the offense, while Mohawk counters with senior QB Andon Clouse (919 passing yards, 11 TDs) and RB Kaden Bish (633 rushing yards, 10 TDs). Mohawk is firmly in the league title chase, averaging more than 40 points per game and posting three shutouts. Wynford will need to limit explosive plays from Parker Weithman and Brant Kirian and sustain drives with Campbell and Locker to keep it close.
Colonel Crawford vs. Seneca East (Home – Friday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 PM)
Colonel Crawford (6–0, 3–0 N10) continued its dominance last week with a 48–0 shutout of Bucyrus and 389 rushing yards. Senior RB Connor McMichael (169 yards, 3 TDs last week), junior Roen Thew and sophomore Avery Powers headline a deep backfield. Senior QB Peyton Baker has over 600 passing yards and 6 TDs, and lineman Payne DeGray anchors a defense with 6.5 sacks and 19 TFLs. Seneca East (4–2, 2–1), led by dual-threat senior QB Nicholas Parks (868 passing, 467 rushing yards), rebounded from a close loss at Carey by knocking off Upper Sandusky. This game has major N10 implications — a Crawford win keeps them tied atop the league with Carey, while Seneca East needs an upset to stay in the race. Last year CC squeaked out a 21–20 win at Seneca East, so this could be tighter than the records suggest.
Buckeye Central vs. Carey (Home – Friday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 PM)
Buckeye Central (3–3, 1–2 N10) has been inconsistent, beating Crestline, South Central, and Bucyrus but falling hard to Mohawk and CC. Senior QB Jack Phillips and senior RB Owen Hatten will have to lead the charge against Carey (3–3, 3–0 N10), which started 0–3 but is now undefeated in conference play and controls its destiny. This is a chance for BC to defend home turf and make a statement; a Carey win keeps them alone atop the N10.
Crestline vs. St. Thomas Aquinas (Home – Saturday, Oct. 4 at 7:00 PM)
Crestline enters around 4–2 with three straight wins and is building a case for another playoff appearance. Junior QB Kody Lawhorn and senior lineman Brett Cheney (6-6, 320) dominate both sides of the ball. Aquinas is 0–6 and struggling to find consistency. Coach Hastings Robinette’s rebuild has the Bulldogs looking for back-to-back postseason berths. Against a struggling Aquinas squad, Crestline should control the line of scrimmage and add another non-conference win to its playoff resume.
Galion at Pleasant (Away – Friday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 PM)
Galion (5–1) is one of the top teams in the region and aims to keep momentum for the postseason. Senior QB Ayden Schmidt (dual-threat) and sophomore RB Will Shaffer headline a balanced Tiger attack, with WR Adam Hamper as another key weapon. Galion’s defense already has multiple shutouts. Pleasant (1–5) is rebuilding and has lost five straight since its opening win. The Tigers are heavy favorites but will look to stay sharp and healthy for their playoff push.
