When Power Turns Predatory: Who Holds Local Officials Accountable?
What happens when the very people elected to represent you abuse their position — using their power and personal wealth to intimidate constituents, target other city officials, and manipulate the flow of information? What happens when they attempt to extort, delete evidence from their phones, or threaten to expose someone’s personal life if they don’t comply with demands — even going so far as to follow through on those threats?
In Crawford County, the answer appears to be: nothing.
Despite reports, evidence, and witnesses, the official in question continues to act without consequence.— shielded from consequences by the very system meant to hold them accountable. The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, the one agency empowered to investigate and bring charges, has so far done nothing.
Are we truly living under a “good ol’ boys” government in this city — one where power protects power and ordinary citizens are left defenseless? Why does Mr. Crall, Crawford County's Prosecuting Attorney, continue to overlook the mounting reports of erratic and arrogant behavior?
These are not rhetorical questions. They strike at the heart of what it means to live in a community governed by law and integrity rather than intimidation and silence. Crawford County residents deserve transparency, accountability, and leaders who uphold their oath to serve the public — not themselves.
Thank you to the author for stating the obvious truths that many are questioning.
