Finding His Rhythm: Cory Rodgers Thrives at GOAL Digital Academy

April Rodgers Published: April 25, 2025 | Updated: April 26, 2025 3 minutes read

For Cory Rodgers, switching from a traditional high school to GOAL Digital Academy wasn’t just an academic decision—it was a life-changing one. “I had been going to Bucyrus High School and over the last two years, I was bullied because of my height and weight—both of which are due to a serious health problem,” Cory shared. “Together with my mom, I chose GOAL because they actually care what I have to say.”

While the transition brought new challenges, it also brought a renewed sense of purpose. “Learning at GOAL is more challenging because you get pushed harder—and that helps you accomplish things,” he said. Cory now enjoys the flexibility of online school. “I get to attend school in my pajamas while sitting on the couch,” he laughed. “I log in and do my subjects and assignments in whatever order I want.” His favorite subjects right now? “Health or world history—they’re the easiest classes,” he admitted with a smile.

One of the biggest surprises about GOAL was how open the schedule could be. “I can do my school anytime during the day,” Cory said. “That’s been a huge difference.” A standout figure in his GOAL journey has been Ms. Holloway, Education Advocate. “She welcomed me with open arms because she actually cared,” Cory said. “She’s the nicest person ever.” That support has helped him stay focused—and start thinking big. “It’s helped me see that if I stay on track, I can start college classes my junior year.”

To other students who might be struggling, Cory offers this advice: “If you don’t feel safe, go to GOAL. You’ll be supported.” Looking ahead, Cory has ambitious plans: “My goals are to go to college, get a good education, attend veterinary school, and become a vet.”

And here’s something most people might not know about Cory: even though he attends GOAL, he’s still part of the Bucyrus High School Marching Band during the summer and football season. “I play cymbals,” he said. “It’s awesome that I still get to be part of the band.” He also runs FreeWire’s TikTok page—and we’re not letting him go anytime soon.

As for his love of percussion and band? It’s in his genes. His mom and all three of his brothers were also in band, so the rhythm runs deep in the Rodgers family.

When he’s not doing schoolwork or making music, Cory enjoys time with his family. He lives with his parents, April and Art, and his big brother Cam. His house is filled with furry and fluffy companions, including a dog named Woollee Bear, a cat named Maverick, and a chinchilla named Cocoa Charms. Cory also has two older brothers, Christian and Chase, and he loves visiting their homes to hang out and play games like Siege and Madden. Cory is the grandson of Judy and Robert Dewalt, Harold Rodgers and Maggie Ohler and David and Sharon Payne.

No matter where life takes him, Cory’s marching to the beat of his own drum—and that rhythm is strong.
