5th Annual Pancake Breakfast Fly-In Draws Record Crowd

The Community Published: September 25, 2025 | Updated: September 25, 2025 2 minutes read

BUCYRUS — The skies over Port Bucyrus Airport were filled with excitement this past Saturday, September 20, 2025, as the 5th Annual Pancake Breakfast & Fly-In soared to its biggest turnout yet. Hot air balloons lifted off at dawn, skydivers performed for the crowd, and families enjoyed bounce houses, classic aircraft on display, and a hearty breakfast served by the Kiwanis in the Hord Hangar. A kiddy tractor pull, drone demonstrations, bake sales, food trucks, and a bustling farmers market rounded out a day packed with activities.

The event also highlights the mission of the Lauretta Schimmoler Museum, which works to preserve the legacy of Bucyrus aviation pioneer Lauretta Schimmoler. Schimmoler was the first woman in the U.S. to acquire and manage a public airport and later founded the Aerial Nurse Corps of America, a forerunner to the U.S. Air Force flight nurse program. The museum continues to educate the public about her achievements while promoting local aviation history.

“This was the biggest year yet for our Pancake Breakfast Fly-In,” said Fred Fischer, president of the Lauretta Schimmoler Museum. “The community support has been incredible, and we’re already looking forward to making next year even bigger.”

With clear skies, full plates, and plenty of family fun, the Fly-In once again proved why it has become a staple of the Bucyrus community calendar.
