Critics Call Him Aggressive—This Week, He Saved a Life

A Bucyrus woman is alive today thanks to the quick actions of Officer Wireman and the fast response of Bucyrus EMS.
On the afternoon of April 14, a woman collapsed while mowing her yard on Union Street and was discovered unresponsive by her son. According to a neighbor who contacted FreeWire, it was Officer Wireman who arrived on scene first and immediately began CPR, successfully reviving her before EMS took over.
“Upon my arrival I could hear the victim’s son yelling toward the back side of the house,” Wireman told FreeWire. “I found the victim lying on her back and unresponsive. She had no pulse and was not breathing, so I began CPR until medics arrived a few minutes later.”
Wireman’s ability to act decisively stems from over a decade in public safety. He began as a Fire Cadet in Morrow County in 2012 and became a firefighter in 2016 before joining law enforcement. He's also no stranger to high-stress situations—Wireman received the Medal of Valor in 2023 for his actions during the November 2022 shooting involving Jacob Davidson. In addition, he’s been repeatedly recognized for his work in narcotics enforcement and patrol.
BPD recently launched a peer-to-peer recognition program, and Wireman has been named Top Criminal Patrol Officer for 2021–2024 and Top OVI Enforcement Officer in 2021.
While the identity of the woman has not been released, Officer Wireman said he received an update from her family the following evening, saying she had been able to speak briefly and was “doing okay.”
“I’d just like to express the importance of knowing how and when to provide CPR,” Wireman said. “This incident is a great example of what can be accomplished when CPR is provided in a timely manner. It also shows the importance of the teamwork and cooperation between the police and fire departments… We are all in this together.”
A neighbor who witnessed the aftermath wrote to FreeWire to ensure the event didn’t go unnoticed. “He gets a lot of crap for his aggressive approach to stopping crime, but he is a very well-rounded officer and a blessing to our community—as well as our firefighters.”
FreeWire has submitted a public records request for the body cam footage and will provide updates if it becomes available.
I’m beyond happy and so thankful for him to be there to save her life! Thank you ❤️
