Bucyrus City Council will have another vacancy as of May 21. Zyan M. Hickman, representative of Ward 3, has announced his resignation. Hickman shared that his decision comes as he prepares to purchase a home on the opposite side of town, outside the ward he currently represents. Council members must reside in the ward they serve, and Hickman’s upcoming move makes him ineligible to continue holding his seat.
He explained that the move was not by choice—his landlord gave him notice at the beginning of March that he had two months to move out. “This isn’t just about stepping down,” Hickman said. “The move is something I have to do—it’s not like I was just looking for an easy out. It wasn’t something I wanted to do.”
When asked about his future in city government, Hickman said he’s never planning on running for office again."I just wish them the best.” Hickman’s departure marks another shift in the city’s leadership as council navigates through ongoing challenges and changes. The process to fill the Ward 3 seat will be determined by the Crawford County Republican Central Committee.
