For Carter Bierce, running isn’t just about crossing the finish line—it’s about chasing big goals.
A student at Pioneer Joint Vocational School in the Exercise Science and Sports Medicine program, Carter is combining his passion for athletics with a career path he’s serious about: becoming an athletic trainer. He chose Pioneer his junior year to gain hands-on experience and a clearer understanding of what a future in athletic training looks like.
When he’s not learning how the body moves or practicing techniques like ankle taping and injury prevention, Carter is hitting the track, basketball court, or cross-country trail. Track is his favorite sport, blending team strategy and individual drive. He competes in several events, including the 4×8, 800, 400, and 4×4.
Carter is currently exploring colleges, especially Bluffton, as he prepares for the next step in his education.
One of his favorite high school memories comes from a cross-country trip to Indiana filled with singing courtesy of teammates Kyle and Charlie. Carter’s favorite class is English Language Arts. Two of his favorite teachers are Mrs. Fischer and Mr. Calder.
Outside of school and sports, Carter enjoys spending time with his family and friends. Carter attends Holy Trinity Church. He also enjoys fantasy football and takes it seriously, especially when competing with his dad. “I just wanted to beat him at something,” he said. His top fantasy picks? Josh Allen, Christian McCaffrey, and Amon-Ra St. Brown. Carter’s favorite NFL team is the Carolina Panthers and his favorite player is Luke Kuechly.
He lives with his parents, Jamie and Julie Bierce, and his little sister, Miranda.
Carter’s advice to other students is to not let others plan their future, but to take control of it themselves. He believes in chasing your dreams and staying focused, because with determination, anything is possible.
