Buckle up, Bucyrus. A Winter Storm Warning begins Saturday at 7 p.m., but the snow is expected to hold off until after midnight, giving everyone a perfect window to get out, have fun, and support great local causes before settling in for the weekend.
Paws, Pastries, and Those Famous Croutons

Saturday night, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 181 is hosting its Make & Bake Auction to benefit the Bucyrus Police Department K9 units, and yes, Harold’s Famous Croutons are back.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the live auction starting at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion, 123 E. Rensselaer St. If you’ve been before, you already know these croutons have a reputation. Full disclosure: I might be a little biased, he is my dad, but they’ve earned their legendary status.
Beyond the croutons, the auction and raffles are stacked. Expect a tactical range bag with shooting supplies and a range certificate, a gun raffle, and a Coach purse raffle, along with Browns and OSU themed baskets, local gift cards, a necklace, a copper kettle, lottery ticket bundles, coffee and baking themed baskets, hair supply items, and beautifully handcrafted wood and stained glass pieces. Police stuffed K9 dogs will also be available for purchase.
Add in homemade cookies, pies, cakes, and other baked goodies from local bakers, plus a 50/50 drawing and plenty of food, and you’ve got the perfect way to stock up for a snowed in weekend, all while supporting Bucyrus’ K9 officers.
And yes, K9 Officer Vader and K9 Officer Capone will be there in person.
Those with additional auction items or donations can drop them off with Beth and Connor upstairs at the Legion Friday from 5–7 p.m. and Saturday from 1–4 p.m.
The public is welcomed and appreciated! Vader and Capone hope to see you there!
Solar Flares, Shimmering Skies, and the Science Behind the Northern Lights

If you’ve noticed more Northern Lights lately, you’re not imagining it. Increased solar activity has been giving us some beautiful light shows over the past year. Before the next one appears, the Crawford Park Astronomy Club is offering a chance to learn what’s behind the glow.
Presenter Julie Rexroad, Physical Science and Earth & Space teacher at Wynford High School, will guide attendees through the science and beauty of the Aurora Borealis, making this a great stop for longtime sky watchers and first time stargazers alike.
Grab some famous croutons, support the K9s, learn something cosmic, Grab some famous croutons, support the K9s, learn something cosmic, and then head home before the snowmageddon arrives! (That’s a joke, no need to hoard all the toilet paper and bread!)
