A Galion man was sentenced to at least 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges related to a shooting and standoff with law enforcement in Galion on January 15, 2025.
During a change of plea hearing in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on March 19, 2025, Jerold L. Fraizer II, 61, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder, both first-degree felonies. He was sentenced to 10 to 15 years on the first charge and 10 years in prison on the second charge, to be served consecutively for a total of 20 to 25 years in prison. He was also ordered to pay court costs and to forfeit a 9MM gun and ammunition that were seized during his arrest to the Galion Police Department.

Law enforcement was called to the 900 block of East Walnut Street on January 15 to investigate a report that two people had been shot. A woman also called 911 saying she and a man who had been living at Fraizer’s residence had been shot by him. Galion Police officers rushed to the scene along with Galion Fire and EMS, the Crawford County Special Response Team, troopers from the Bucyrus Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, and members of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and become involved in a four-hour standoff with Fraizer who was holding a third roommate hostage.
The couple who had been shot did not suffer life-threatening injuries but were taken to Galion Avita Hospital for treatment. Fraizer himself eventually called 911 and indicated that if police attempted to come into his house, he would shoot the 42-year-old male hostage. Eventually, Fraizer came outside from the residence and was arrested by Galion Police.
The hostage was released unharmed. As part of Fraizer’s plea agreement with prosecutors, four other charges were dismissed, including two felonious assault charges and one kidnapping charge, all second-degree felonies, and one count of theft, a third-degree felony. Fraizer, who was represented by Bucyrus attorney Andrew Motter, received credit for 62 days he had already served in jail.
