From solemn reminders and historic tributes to gleaming classic cars and quiet political statements, Ohio saw a wide mix of events last week.

Body Cam Footage Released in Memorial Day Shooting of Deputy Sherrer

On Tuesday, June 10, the Morrow County Prosecutor’s Office released body cam footage tied to the Memorial Day shooting that took the life of Deputy Daniel “Weston” Sherrer. The footage includes an edited version of the 911 call, witness statements provided separately to Deputies Winkler and Sherrer, and body cam video showing the alleged shooter, Brian Wilson.

FreeWire has edited and published the body cams and a timeline of key events. The investigation remains ongoing.

Smithville Hosts Civil War History Day

In Wayne County, the Smithville Community Historical Society welcomed visitors for its annual Civil War History Day on Saturday, June 14. Reenactors in full uniform demonstrated drills, fired muskets, and offered interactive presentations about 19th-century life and military history.

The event highlighted Ohio’s historical role while creating hands-on learning experiences for families and students.

Classic Cars Take the Spotlight at “Cruisin’ With The Cops”

In Bucyrus, the local Fraternal Order of Police hosted its annual “Cruisin’ With The Cops” car show Saturday with strong community turnout. Dan Barker of Bucyrus won Best in Show with his 1973 Plymouth Barracuda.

‘No Kings’ Rallies Quietly Held in Multiple Cities

Wrapping up the week, small “No Kings” rallies were held in several Ohio cities including Akron, Columbus, Toledo, and Cincinnati. Part of a national day of protest coinciding with a military parade in Washington, D.C., the events focused on concerns about expanding presidential power.

All rallies remained peaceful with no incidents reported. Organizers described them as civic-minded gatherings aimed at prompting public reflection.

Looking Ahead: What’s Coming This Week

A public hearing will be held this week in Bucyrus regarding the residency status of Law Director Gobrecht. The challenge, brought by the Bucyrus City Council President, could have implications for future city leadership. FreeWire will provide full coverage and post-hearing reaction.

Juneteenth Observance on Thursday

This Thursday, June 19, communities across Ohio will mark Juneteenth with local events and educational programs. The holiday commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and continues to grow in visibility statewide.

All federal, state, and most city offices will be closed in observance of the day.

First Day of Summer Is Friday

Friday also marks the official first day of summer—and as the temps climb, so does the energy across the Buckeye State. From festivals and reenactments to car shows and concerts, summer is just getting started in Ohio.
