BUCYRUS — Imasen Bucyrus Technology, Inc. (IB-Tech) says it is expanding its Bucyrus operation in a move expected to bring 170 new full-time-equivalent jobs to Crawford County and add more than $7.7 million in new annual payroll.
What’s being added — and why it matters
According to project details released through state and regional economic development partners, IB-Tech’s expansion is tied directly to the auto industry’s ongoing shift toward electric vehicles, along with new product work connected to Honda.
The company’s proposed project includes:
- A new location and facility footprint for seat mechanism product lines for electric vehicles
- A potential paint and stamping line
- A new seat recliner mechanism product for Honda
Regional partners describe the overall buildout as a 53,000-square-foot plant expansion, part of a broader effort to increase capacity and bring more processes in-house.
Investment and state incentive
IB-Tech’s investment tied to the project is listed at $15.3 million, including $9.3 million in machinery and equipment and $6 million in building costs, according to the Ohio Tax Credit Authority’s project scope documentation.
As part of the expansion, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved a 1.305% Job Creation Tax Credit for eight years. The state’s scope-of-work document also states the company must maintain operations at the project location for at least 11 years under the agreement.
That same state document notes Ohio was competing with Japan and Mexico for the project.
Timeline and local reaction
Regional Growth Partnership reports the expansion is expected to roll out over multiple years, with the building expansion completed in 2027 and additional new jobs added through 2029.
In a statement shared by Regional Growth Partnership, IB-Tech Assistant Vice President of Administration Jeff Roe said the expansion helps the company grow stamping and painting capacity while reducing supply-chain risk by bringing outsourced work back in-house.
Mayor Bruce Truka also offered a supportive statement through the regional announcement, thanking IB-Tech for its continued investment in Bucyrus and highlighting the opportunities the project could create for local families.
A quick bit of context
This is not the first time IB-Tech has invested heavily in its Bucyrus footprint. In recent years, the company has announced equipment investments and hiring tied to expanded production capacity at Crossroads Industrial Park.
